What insurance does NHC Fort Sanders accept?
NHC Fort Sanders contracts with most major insurance companies. Managed Care insurance products such as Cariten Senior, BlueCross, John Deere Secure Plus, Humana, AETNA, PHP, and many others. NHC Fort Sanders also accepts Medicare, private payment, Hospice, and Medicaid.

How does Medicare pay for a stay in a skilled nursing facility?
Medicare Part A pays up to 100 days in a skilled nursing facility after a 3 day qualifying stay in a hospital if daily skilled nursing treatment (7x/week) or therapy treatments (at least 5x/week) are ordered.
Medicare pays the first 20 days at 100%. Starting on day 21, Medicare will pay after the daily copayment amount is paid. This copayment amount can be paid by a Medicare supplemental insurance, privately or by Medicaid (if person qualifies). How do I inquire about admitting someone to NHC Fort Sanders?

When planning an admission from a hospital to a nursing home it is important to let the hospital discharge planner know which center that you have chosen. This will ensure that your loved one's medical information is sent to NHC Fort Sanders in a timely manner for review by our medical staff.

What amenities are provided in the room?
Electric bed, wireless internet, attractive decor, 4 drawer chest, closet, night stand with hutch, overbed table, and semi-private bathroom.

If I bring my computer from home, will I be able to get on the internet?
Yes, we have FREE wireless internet services throughout our facility.

Are there televisions or telephones in the room?
NHC Ft. Sanders does not provide televisions or telephones in the rooms. A television (no longer than a 19 inch) can be brought from home. Each room is equipped with a cable connection for each resident. There is a minimal fee for cable service. If the resident desires to have a telephone, the resident/family can call Bell South and request phone service in the room.
There is a common area on each floor with a television with cable on every floor. Phones are also available throughout the facility.

If a family wants to visit with a resident in a location other than the room; is there an area to visit?
Yes. Each floor has a lounge/sitting room with a TV and sitting area. On the main floor we have a vending machine room, activities room, and a beautiful dining room. We also encourage families and residents to visit our courtyard.

What are your visiting hours?
We have open visiting hours. You are welcome to visit your loved one at any time. We also have large areas where family and friends can gather with your loved ones.

What should I bring from home?
We encourage you to bring familiar items from home to personalize your room. This helps the resident feel more comfortable.

What type of clothing should I bring?
Bring 7-10 days worth of clothing. Our housekeeping department will label all of the residents clothing. We are happy to launder your clothing for you.

Can my physician see me while I am a patient at NHC Ft. Sanders?
We will assign you to one of our four physicians. This physician will act as your Primary Care Physician during your stay. Our nurses have phone contact with all In-House Physicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Should I bring my medications from home?
Please keep your medications at home. Your medications will be provided through Network Pharmacy during your stay.
